Speed Shaft Analysis on Folio SHeeter Case Study
Problem
A paper mill’s folio sheeter produced inconsistent paper length, resulting in an unacceptably high percentage of waste. The mill hired KHE to investigate the problem.
Solution
KHE developed custom instrumentation and software to monitor and record shaft speeds at various points on the folio sheeter drive train. Several shafts were monitored simultaneously. Although we could detect no problems with paper length while conducting measurements, we did find an increase in standard deviation of the cutter and squeeze roll shaft speeds as the feeding paper reels decreased in size. This trend indicated sensitivity to a change in system loading.
Results
KHE was able to provide the client detailed information which would allow its maintenance personnel to improve the consistency of the paper lengths.
