Rush Pipe Stress Analysis Case Study

Problem

A major refinery had contract to process our crude, which required stainless steel piping. The existing pipe in the operation was carbon steel. KHE was contracted to perform a rush analysis of the piping system within only five days. A routine schedule would be four weeks.

Solution

KHE sent a team of engineers of designers to perform this work on site. We developed CAESAR II models of the entire system that consisted of vessels, pumps and heat exchangers. Finite element models were built to evaluate locations of high stress on several of the vessels. After completion of the work on site, concurrently with construction, KHE completed a check of the calcuations.

Results

KHE finished the site project on time. The new pipe design allowed the plant to successfully complete its contract.
